Teaching children a second language requires a special set of skills. It requires more oral language development with a focus on listening and speaking and ample opportunities to hear and discriminate words and sounds.

Unfortunately, few Tanzanian teachers have had the chance to learn these skills. In addition, most teaching in Tanzania provides students with little or no opportunity to participate.

To address these problems, EfforTZ volunteer educators train teachers in child-centered and learning-friendly methods of teaching.

They also provide teachers with English literacy skill-building activities, lesson planning, and examples of effective classroom instruction with student participation.

They also work directly with the students.
Teachers are the single most important factor in improving and ensuring the quality of education.
